What
is Homeopathy?
Homeopathy
is a system of medicine which has been developed for over
200 years. It treats the whole person, not just the symptoms
of a disease. It provides a gentle but remarkably powerful
and effective alternative to potentially harmful drugs.
Rather than providing a single prescription to suppress
an illness, it treats everyone as an individual, and finds
a remedy for you specifically, which will help your body
to heal and recover.
Perhaps
you've been prescribed drugs in the past which suppressed
symptoms but did not always cure the underlying problems.
Perhaps you've been prescribed medication which produced
irritating or unpleasant side-effects. Perhaps you have
seen a problem go, but still feel unwell, still feel not
quite right. Perhaps you don't feel well, but also cannot
identify specific or serious symptoms to go to your regular
GP about.
In
any of these situations, homoeopathy can be an excellent
route to real well-being and health. And it is very effective
in many areas where allopathic medicine is weak - for example
ongoing problems such as rheumatism, backache, insomnia,
PMT, lethargy and depression can often be treated very effectively.
Many
patients react badly to certain allopathic medications.
When this happens, homoeopathy can be particularly valuable.
Homoepathic remedies are usually in the form of small pills
which are easy to take and taste pleasant. They are non-toxic
and not habit forming.
The
gentle approach of homoeopathy makes it especially valuable
for children, the elderly, pregnant women, weak and fragile.
What's
the treatment like?
When
you go for your first consultation with Dr Soffe, she'll
spend a considerable length of time with you, getting to
know all about you, as well as about your medical problems.
You'll
be talking about yourself, your lifestyle, foods which you
like and dislike, your previous health and your family's,
and the specific reason for your visit. This will help her
build up a complete picture of you.
From
this picture, she'll be able to select homeopathic remedies
which are likely to be the best for you as an individual.
And from her background as a GP, she'll also be watching
out and checking whether conventional "allopathic" remedies
should also play a useful role.
Can
homeopathy treat everything?
No.
Most health problems will respond to homoeopathy; some can
be treated completely with homoeopathy, sometimes even when
other treatments have failed, and allopathic medicine has
given up on the problem. But some health problems - for
example acute problems - may be better managed with surgery
or allopathic medicine. If your problems indicate this,
Dr Soffe is fully qualified to advise you.
